Carter BloodCare and Super 1 Blood Drive
A change of seasons offers the promise of warmer days, more colorful landscape and fresh perspective. Renew the gift of hope this spring for hospital patients in need of blood transfusions by giving blood. There is no substitute for human blood. Volunteer donors are necessary each day to maintain the safe and sufficient blood supply in our community.
It is important that the community blood supply mirrors the locale where potential patients live. A variety of blood donors helps ensure that the right blood match is available for the right patient, even when a rare type is needed.
There is also a recurring blood drive in Mount Pleasant held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., every first and third Saturday at Super 1 Foods located at 602 Jefferson Park. The next recurring blood drive at Super 1 Foods this month will be heldSaturday, April 18.
One in seven hospital patients will require a blood transfusion. However, some patients require only red blood cells, while others are given platelets or plasma; many patients require a combination of these blood products. Talk with your Carter BloodCare staff member to learn more about the different types of blood donations you can make to help meet patient needs.
Keep in mind it’s a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood.
